Beyond its history and original purpose, the architecture of the Chapelle XVIIIe is a perfect setting for contemporary art. About three exhibitions are held every year, including one by an artist in residence.

Programme

Masques effrontés, Christelle Mally

The contemporary art center Les Pénitents Noirs exhibits the work of Christelle Mally. The original presentation, associating her works with objects from the ethnographic and naturalist collections of the Musée de la Vallée in Barcelonnette, highlights the career of a fascinating artist whose inspiration crosses eras and cultures.

To better understand her approach, the exhibition curators Coralie Duponchel and Léa Torreadrado have built a display integrating different objects proposed by the Museum of the Valley in Barcelonnette, from its ethnographic and naturalist collections. A setting in comparison which underlines the idea of a temporal and geographical journey.

The Galerie du Hérisson, associated with this exhibition, presents a selection of sculptures and drawings of the artist who is in residence at the Penitents since October 10, 2022.
