Current exhibitions in the Provençal hinterland: from Grasse to Embrun

Current exhibitions in Grasse, Draguignan, Digne-les-Bains and Embrun

In the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, little gems reveal themselves along the way: Les Capucins in Embrun and Le Cairn in Digne-les-Bains, with exhibitions conceived in situ in connection with artists’ residencies, the history and unique character of this rural, mid-mountain region. There is also the extraordinary collection of the Musée Gassendi, which extends under the open sky across the Haute-Provence Geopark and can be explored on foot.

Les Capucins - Embrun
Assis debout dans mon lit à la lueur d’une chandelle éteinte, David Posth-Kohler

Ten years after his first solo exhibition, David Posth-Kohler brings together at Les Capucins a range of sculptural gestures—those of the tinkerer, the blacksmith, the puppeteer, the ceramist, and the costume maker. He creates assemblages of composite figures set within domestic architectures; their silhouettes form multiple bodies, at times caught in irresistible dances, at others absorbed in deep concentration.

Indian world: Masterpieces from the Guimet Museum

Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Gandhara.

An original exploration of the treasures held in the collections of the Musée National des Arts Asiatiques. Each year, visitors are invited to discover a different Asian cultural sphere and, following Japan, to delve into the culture and arts of India through to the end of 2026.

Musée Gassendi - Digne-les-Bains
L’Art en montagne

The Gassendi Museum is currently closed for extension works, but its L’Art en montagne collection remains accessible.

At the heart of the Haute-Provence Geological Nature Reserve — UNESCO Global Geopark — the works from the Gassendi Museum can be discovered in the open landscape: mountains, forests, rivers, trails, and villages become the living extension of the museum.

The work developed with artists across the Digne region has formed a reference ensemble, featuring major works by Andy Goldsworthy, herman de vries, Paul-Armand Gette, Richard Nonas, Joan Fontcuberta, Mark Dion, Trevor Gould, and others.
