France’s first foundation for modern and contemporary art, the Maeght Foundation will celebrate its sixtieth anniversary in the summer of 2024. Created in 1964 by art dealers, publishers and lithographers Marguerite and Aimé Maeght, it was inaugurated in Saint-Paul-de-Vence by André Malraux and immediately recognised as a public utility. This anniversary will be marked by a major summer exhibition, “Bonnard-Matisse, a friendship”, the inauguration of new exhibition rooms devoted this year to the permanent collection, and a month of celebrations featuring concerts, dance performances, film screenings, readings, etc.

Korean artist internationally renowned for her poetic and minimalist works, Minjung Kim subtly weaves a connection between tradition and modernity. Working primarily with ink on large-scale traditional Korean hanji paper, she creates compositions of great delicacy, where the repetition of motifs resembles a meditation on time, nature, and spirituality.
I am very pleased to have the chance to show my work at the Fondation Marguerite and Aimé Maeght. Since 2006, I have a studio in Saint-Paul-de-Vence where I periodically spend time, creating artworks inspired by my surroundings. I came here to escape the city and immerse myself in a different kind of creativity. It’s myeuphoria to be part of this world, and words cannot fully express my excitement about this exhibition at the Fondation Maeght”
a monographic exhibition dedicated to Hélène Delprat, specifically designed for the ground-floor galleries of the historic building. History and the history of art — including key artists associated with the Fondation Maeght — subtly permeate the work of Hélène Delprat, a major figure in the contemporary art scene. Her works have been in dialogue with those of these great masters for many years within the Fondation Maeght’s collection.
The poetic title of the exhibition, borrowed from Alfred Jarry, sets the tone: “Listen! It’s the eclipse.” This showcase offers the best of Hélène Delprat’s personal and shared history through a journey of over sixty works, tracing her singular adventure. Often favoring unconventional paths over assured success, she took the road less traveled. Upon leaving the École des Beaux-Arts, her stay at the Villa Médicis and her entry into the prestigious Galerie Maeght seemed to promise a clear trajectory.
An exceptional exhibition dedicated to photographer André Ostier (1906–1994), a discreet yet essential figure in 20th-century art. Through a selection of 32 silver gelatin prints, the exhibition highlights the elegance and subtlety of his vision, revealing the unique relationships he maintained with the artists of the Maeght family and the great figures of his time.
Celebrated for his ability to capture the essence of his subjects, André Ostier photographed personalities such as Alberto Giacometti, Joan Miró, Georges Braque, and Alexander Calder. A worldly man and aesthete, he immortalized with rare sensitivity the moments of creation and the events that shaped the artistic and cultural life fostered by the Maeght family, with whom he had been close since the gallery’s early days.
The exhibition invites the visitor on a journey from the modernist carving that launched Hepworth’s career in the 1920s and 1930s, through the iconic strung sculptures of the 1940s and 1950s, to her later large-scale commissions. This retrospective reveals how she integrated music, dance, science, space exploration, politics and religion, as well as events in her personal life, into her work, creating a singular vision of art and life.
« Deeply spiritual and passionately engaged with political, social and technological debates in the 20th century, Hepworth was obsessed with how the physical encounter with sculpture could impact the viewer and alter their perception of the world. »
