The MAT comprises sections devoted to ancient art, to the Mediterranean, and to 1960-1980s art movements. It also includes a graphic arts studio and a cabinet of curiosities settled in an ancient library featuring more than 40,000 works.
A selection of 53 works (ancient and contemporary paintings, photographs) from the collections of the M.A.T., on the theme of the human figure, the portrait, the nude, etc., challenges the public on the similarities between the work of the 17th century and that of today. The eyes of the painter and the photographer cross: lighting, framing, theme, analysis of bodies, pose...
In the continuity of the temporary room, the photography invests the spaces by infiltrating in a punctual way in the permanent rooms of landscape, the East and contemporary art. A few loans of photographs complete our collections, notably those of the Roger-Viollet gallery (Paris) for the Orient.
About thirty photographs are exhibited; the opportunity for visitors to discover or rediscover the photographic collection of the M.A.T. and to appreciate the richness of this collection.
Brihat, Cartier-Bresson, Clergue, Doisneau, Evans, Freund, Man Ray, Ronis, Riboud, Ristelhueber, Lartigue, Théret, Sieff, Steichen... are present in this exhibition.
