Programme

From Toulon to La-Londe-les-Maures, André and Gaudensi Allar, 1850-1900

In the second half of the 19th century, the MAT and the Château des Bormettes used the same team of architects and decorators: the theorist of monumental polychromy Paul Sédille, the ceramist Jules Loebnitz and the brothers André and Gaudensi Allar. The latter, one a sculptor and the other an architect, joined forces at the same time to give their home town and the surrounding area some of its most remarkable monuments.

The exhibition takes visitors on a journey from one area to another. Housed in the Graphic Art Department, it features some sixty different documents, including paintings, sculptures, engravings, photographs and ceramics. It sheds new light on personalities who are little-known today, and on heritage that needs to be rediscovered and protected.
